Autumn at the Arboretum

Autumn at the Arboretum

Fall has always been one of my favorite times of year.  Around here, the last few weeks of October are some of the only times you can really enjoy being outside.  My oldest will be two next month, and we always look for activities to keep him entertained.  He likes to be able to run freely and touch everything he sees. Luckily, we have found zoos and botanical gardens a great way to get fresh air and keep him entertained.  We took a weekend trip to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.  In the fall, they have a special event called “Autumn at the Arboretum,” with a village built from 90,000 pumpkins.

I had visions of taking beautiful pictures of my boys in the pumpkin patch, but of course reality always hits.  I was lucky if I could catch either child still long enough to take a decent picture. My oldest spent half the time snacking on crackers and throwing fits whenever I asked him to say “cheese.”  When we finally got them to the pumpkin village, I realized how impossible it was to get an infant and a one year old to look at the camera and smile at the same time.  I eventually gave up, and spent the day enjoying the trip instead of taking pictures. Here are my candid, real life photos.  They aren’t perfect, but neither are we.

Lego Patents Wall Art – Set of 4

Lego Patents Wall Art – Set of 4

As a mom of two boys, we are all about Legos.  We play with every size Lego, watch Lego movies, and go to Legoland. It seems like Legos grew up with me.  A lot of the block sets today are aimed at teenagers to adults with thousands of pieces per set.  Lately, I find myself dreaming about building my own palaces and skyscrapers from the Lego Architecture sets.  I have found 4 original Lego patents from 1958-1979.   By now, most Lego patents have already expired, but you can still hang them on your wall as a homage to your childhood.

You can find almost any patent online from Google’s Patent Search but many early patents aren’t in good condition.  I have spent time to edit and clean up these original patents so that they look like they did when they were originally filed. I’m guessing the scanners, years ago, weren’t that great because most of the patents were scanned and filed sideways with lots of marks.  Luckily, you don’t have to worry about any of that.  You can just print and hang these original works of art.

If you are interested in me doing patents more often, leave a comment below on what you would like to see.

Stressed is Desserts Quote Wall Art

Stressed is Desserts Quote Wall Art

Stressed is desserts spelled backwards. Today’s freebie is wall art to make you smile. Hang this free print on your fridge, wall, or wherever you can see it daily.

I know most of you already know this, but being a mom is exhausting and it only gets more tiring the older they get.  I always hear new moms complain about how tired they are with a newborn baby.  I agree, a newborn is tiring, but wait until they’re a toddler.  At least when they’re a baby, you get naps.  Once they start moving everything changes.  That sweet little baby is now running around breaking piggy banks in toy stores (speaking from experience) and being an emotional wreck.  Just when you think you have them calm, the slightest movement can set them off.

We are now entering the terrible twos and I’m starting to figure out the art of distraction.  FOOD SOLVES EVERYTHING.  If my toddler is eating something he is perfectly happy.  We now give him food while shopping, at the hospital, in the car, and even bring food into the grocery store.

If you are feeling stressed: take a break, eat some cake, and give your kid a bite. Remember, they are only little once.

“Seinfeld” Name Wall Art

“Seinfeld” Name Wall Art

My husband’s and my new favorite obsession is Seinfeld.  We have been binge watching this show for weeks and just finished the 100th episode.  Back before we had kids, my husband surprised me with tickets to see Jerry Seinfeld live in Bricktown. He was just as funny in person as on TV. Now 7 years later, we are finally watching every episode of Seinfeld.  Every night for the past month, I nurse the baby to sleep, sit on the couch with my husband, and forget about whatever is going on in life.

Mother’s Day Card

Mother’s Day Card

Hey readers! Sorry I’ve been gone for months! This Momma had a baby! In February we welcomed the birth of Noah, our second baby boy.  So in honor of me being a mom once again, I’m giving away a free printable Mother’s Day Card.

Good moms have sticky floors, messy kitchens, laundry piles, dirty ovens, and happy kids.  With two under two, this describes my life.  I’d much rather be running around the house playing hide and seek or stuck on the couch for hours (because the baby is asleep on top of me and I don’t want to wake him up) than cleaning house.  I mean really…it can wait.

Handwritten Quote by Robert Browning Wall Art

Handwritten Quote by Robert Browning Wall Art

This month my husband and I celebrated our 4th wedding anniversary. It’s true, I don’t look at him the same way I used to. He’s not the same person he was when we got married, and I’m not the same girl.  So much has happened since we have been married.  We both have graduated college, got full-time jobs, bought a house, had a little boy, and now we have another son on the way.  Most of the feelings I had when we met 7 years ago have gone away, and have been replaced by feelings that I could never have imagined.  Since we have had our son, I look at my husband in a whole new light. He is a man, a father, my FAMILY.  I am no longer a girl with a crush, I am a mother so in love with her husband and children that it makes my heart literally hurt.  Grow old along with me, the best is yet to be.

This quote is by Robert Browning from his poem Rabbi Ben Ezra.

Baby’s First Year Milestones

Baby’s First Year Milestones

As a mother of a 9 month old, I know how important it is to document your baby’s first year.  I love to look back and see how different he has changed from month to month.  I remember between month 3 and 4, Jonah went from being a skinny tiny baby to a fat linebacker.  It breaks my heart that they grow up so fast, but with these printable milestone cards you can remember your baby boy or girl forever.
